The Roanoke Valley Sports Club is very excited to welcome NCAA football official Jim Hyson to our January meeting that will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2020.
Jim has not only officiated ACC football games for 14 years, but has also earned assignments in some of the premier bowls games in the country, such as The Peach Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, and last year’s Rose Bowl, which was part of the national championship semifinal (won by Georgia in double overtime 54-48). Jim has officiated the Army-Navy game, ACC Championship games, and most recently the Virginia Tech – North Carolina, 6 overtime thriller in Blacksburg.
Before his officiating career began, Jim was a defensive standout for the Virginia Cavaliers from 1979 to 1982. A few years later, he got into football officiating, and started officiating high school games in the Lynchburg area before moving to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and then to the Atlantic 10 before landing in the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2005.
We look forward to hearing some great stories from Jim and invite all sports fans to join us to hear from one of the best officials in the game.
