The February Meeting of Roanoke Valley Sports Club will be held on Monday, February 24 and will be celebrating the Hokie Invite Softball Tournament that will be played at Moyer Field in Salem on February 28 – March 2.

Senior pitcher Emma Lemley and Senior outfielder Cori McMillan
Since Mike Lewis has been at Virginia Tech, the Hokies have made four straight NCAA Regional appearances, including hosting a Regional and Super Regional in Blacksburg for the first time in school history. He has helped the Hokies become one of the most proficient offenses in school history.
Emma Lemley attended Jefferson Forest High School from nearby Forest, Virginia. She was named the ACC Freshman of the Year in 2022 and has been a regular on the All-ACC teams. She ranks in the Top Ten at Virginia Tech in career wins (50), complete games (44), and ERA (2.95), and in the Top Five in Strikeouts (653), Winning percentage (.694), Opposing batting average (.211),and strikeouts per 7 innings (9.5). D1 Softball recently ranked her as one of the Top 20 pitchers in the country.
Cori McMillan attended Northwest Guilford High School in Greensboro,NC. She spent her first two years at Radford where she hit .345 with 17 home runs and 59 runs batted in. She transferred to Virginia Tech last season where she earned First Team All-ACC and second team All-American honors after hitting .379 with 21 home runs and 64 RBIs. She was also 20-20 in stolen bases and is currently the all-time leader at VT in slugging percentage (.869). Softball America recently named her a first team All-American for the 2025 season.
Come hear from Coach Lewis how the Hokie Invite came together, the considerations of scheduling for a perennial Top 25 program, and the challenges of recruiting/retention in the days of the transfer portal.
Hear from true student-athletes on the challenges of balancing the demands of the sport with realities of being a college student, including time management, staying current on schoolwork while traveling during the season, and the impact of NIL and the transfer portal on them.
Team that will be participating in the Hokie Invite will include #16 Virginia Tech, #25 Penn State, James Madison, Radford, Robert Morris, Villanova, Bucknell, and Queens.
The Roanoke Valley Sports Club is a group of sports enthusiasts that holds monthly dinner meetings to learn more about various aspects of sports. Our February meeting will be held on February 24 at the Salem Civic Center. We encourage anyone who loves sports to attend our meeting, which includes a buffet meal. Social time will begin at 5:45 and dinner will begin at 6:15 with the program at 7:00.
