The Roanoke Valley Sports Club is pleased to welcome new Virginia Tech Women’s Basketball Coach Megan Duffy to our meeting on Monday, June 24th. Social time will begin at 5:45 and dinner will begin at 6:15 with the program at 7:00.
Duffy was hired as the Woman’s Basketball Coach at Virginia Tech on April 3rd after successful coaching tenures at Marquette and Miami of Ohio. During her five years at Marquette and two years at Miami, she guided her teams to a career record 154-66 (.700) which included six seasons of 20 or more wins. Each of her teams have reached post-season play with the exception of the COVID year of 2019-20.
“She’s a proven winner,” Hokies director of athletics Whit Babcock said at her introductory press conference. “She’s a sitting head coach that has built two programs and is now ready to lead ours.”
Duffy was a four-year letter-winner at Notre Dame (2002-06), helping the Irish to four straight NCAA appearances and two Sweet 16 berths. She is one of four players in school history to total at least 1,000 points, 500 assists and 200 steals. She graduated from Notre Dame in 2006 with a double degree in psychology and computer applications.
Following college, Duffy was selected with the 31st pick in WNBA draft by the Minnesota Lynx and played professionally for the Lynx, the New York Liberty, and several overseas teams. She began her coaching career as an Assistant at St. John’s in 2009 with subsequent stops at George Washington, and Michigan before being name the head coach at Miami in 2017.
Come join us as we welcome Coach Duffy to the Roanoke Valley in her first area appearance.
